Training for the Hairdressing and Barbering Intermediate Apprenticeship and Hairdressing and Barbering Advanced Apprenticeship is undertaken in a flexible manner and is determined by the particular needs of the learner.
Learners will normally attend the college 1 day a week and attend work placement for a minimum of 30-40 hours per week . In addition to ‘off the job’ training, further assessments will be undertaken in the workplace on a regular basis.
Apprenticeships and advanced apprenticeships combine work and training to offer a package which includes:-
A wage package or allowance of at least £3.50 per hour (April 2017) - A job or practical experience with an employer - A nationally recognised vocational qualification
The apprenticeships form a key part of work-based learning, which leads to an NVQ. Work based learning is built around practical experience with an employer and appropriate training arranged by a learning provider. In this way the young person receives the right knowledge, skills and experience to achieve the relevant NVQ. Apprenticeships and advanced apprenticeships are a partnership between employers, training providers and young people.

The Apprenticeship is open to anyone with a strong commitment to learning to at least Level 2.
The Advanced Apprenticeship is available for those who would like to work towards at least a Level 3 qualification after achieving Level 2.
Functional skills are an essential part of apprenticeships. As well as the work skills that are required in a particular job, there are other abilities needed to do a job satisfactorily. Many employers now require the young people they recruit to have something extra.
They want functional skills.
All Apprenticeships and Advanced Apprenticeships include functional skills because they demonstrate that a person can communicate orally and in writing, tackle numerical problems and are able to improve on their own learning and performance work.
Positive Approach Academy for Hair understands the need to deliver flexible, cost effective training programmes, which cater for both the employer and the learner.
The Government will fully finance training and assessment costs for apprentices aged 16 to 18 for small businesses, with fewer than 50 employees, therefore price negotiation is not necessary.
The Government requires employers to make a 10% contribution to the cost of training and assessment for 19+ learners (unless they were formerly in care or have a Local Authority Education, Healthcare Plan).
